About the TEC

The Technology and Education Center(TEC) grew from several sources.Initially a Training Committee in Information Technology Services (ITS) identified some basic computing skills and relevant workshop outlines for staff training. Diana Catley, Assistant Director for Human Resources (HR), and John Sloan, Coordinator in ITS, set up a calendar of workshops, identified potential facilitators, and advertised training events.

Shortly thereafter, Ramapo College's Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable (TLTR) also addressed integrating the technologies in teaching, learning, and professional development. To encourage faculty, the TLTR inaugurated the Tech Lunch program which joined the training calendar.

When the current Technology and Education Center (TEC) site available, Victoria Bruni, Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF), committed it to faculty and staff training.

Informal faculty discussions suggested the TEC should be a place where instructors could work in a calm, supportive environment, rich in technologies and knowledgeable consultants. To confirm faculty recommendations, TLTR circulated an e-mail questionnaire asking instructors about developing the TEC as a faculty and staff support center. The following summary of requests guided program planning:

  • Special software and hardware like color scanners and video cameras
  • Various computer platforms
  • Guides to use equipment and programs
  • Answers to questions: phone, e-mail, on-site consultants
  • Teaching assistants available at scheduled and varied times
  • Information sources for self-learning

The TEC facility was renovated in January 2000. New equipment was ordered to be installed in the Spring 2000 semester. Thus the TEC evolves from faculty and staff interest, TLTR direction, support from VPAA and VPAF, and participation from ITS, HR, and facilitators and clients from all units across the campus.
